Description

Runners get the chance to trek through the streets and residential neighborhoods of the village of Pinehurst in the Sandhills region of central North Carolina at the Turkey Trot Half Marathon, 10K, 5K and one-mile race, which marks its 36th annual running in 2016.

In previous years, over 1,200 runners have crossed the finish line in all races combined including more than 340 runners in the half marathon alone. Most participants will tell you that this is the most beautiful Half Marathon course they have run, as challenging to boot.

Runners can expect much of the course to offer ample shade, as the route will make its way largely through residential areas as well as around stretches of Pinehurst Lake, and past several fairways within the neighborhoods that make up the golf resort. The course is certified by USATF-RRTC (USA Track and Field, Road Running Technical Council).

The Foundation of FirstHealth is the catalyst for the philanthropy that has led FirstHealth of the Carolinas to become among the finest in the nation. We act as an umbrella of foundations serving throughout our system.

Event Site Rules

Gun start time vs chip time:  The race results will contain both a gun start time (the start time of the race) and a chip time (the time from when your timing chip crosses the start mat).  Times used for awards and reported to USATF are the GUN START TIMES, which is standard USATF practice.  This means that competative runners should make sure to start as close to the front as possible.  Less competative runners, walkers, and those with strollers should start at the back.

Headphones:  While headphones are no longer banned in USATF sanctioned races, they are discouraged.  If you choose to wear headphone, you will not be eligible for awards.  Please be considerate and safe.  You need to be able to hear safety officials, cars, and other participants.

Strollers:  Strollers are welcome!  Please be considerate if participating with a stroller by being aware of other participants and starting in the back of the group so that you will not be in the way of competative runners.

Do i have to run?  Can I walk?  We welcome everyone at the Pinehurst Turkey Trot!  Runners, joggers, walkers, skippers, strutters, sidesteppers, etc!  Please be aware that because of limitations of course safety officials and volunteers we do have a cutoff time of 4 hours.  As long as you can cross the finish line within that time, then do it in whichever method you prefer!

T-shirts:  T-shirts are only guaranteed for participants who have registered by November 5th.  If you register after November 5th then you will not recieve a t-shirt until after the race on a first come first serve basis.  We will not re-order shirts.  If you want a shirt be sure to register prior to November 5th.
