3 Deep awards in 5 year age categories for 5k and 10k.


The Cardinal STRUT is a  one-of-a kind, high flying community event!   Whether you are age 2 to 72, a walker or an elite runner, we have a race distance for you!

The Cardinal Strut 5k and 10k course winds through a beautiful and quiet Wilmington neighborhood.  This is the only race run on this FAST, FLAT and BEAUTIFUL USATF certified course!  The 1 mile fun run takes place on the Holly Tree Memorial Track. 

8:00 AM - 1 Mile Cardinal Dash

9:00 AM - 5K and 10K

10:00 AM - Fun Run

While you are having an awesome day of running and family fun you are also “making tracks” to helping kids in New Hanover County who are battling cancer.

The after party is fun for the whole family and features breakfast from Waffle House!

The New and Improved CARDINAL DASH!   ONE MILE - STRAIGHT SHOT! NO TURNS!  The first of its kind in Wilmington, NC!  Who will be named the fastest man, woman and child in the Port City!   The start line for this race ONLY is at the corner of Kirby Smith Drive and Samuel Cooper Drive.  (This is 1 mile from Holly Tree Elementary)  THERE IS NO TRANSPORTATION PROVIDED to the START of this race AND NO PARKING at the START LINE.   We suggest you park at Long Leaf Mall, Take the shuttle to Holly Tree Elementary, then run, jog, skip, walk and generally warm up to the start of the Cardinal Dash.   This race begins at 8am, please allow ample time to make your way to the start line.  

Event Site Rules

Parking – Parking is available at Long Leaf Mall with a shuttle to the race start.

Headphones:  While headphones are no longer banned in USATF sanctioned races, they are discouraged.   Please be considerate and safe.  You need to be able to hear safety officials, cars, and other participants.

Strollers:  Strollers are welcome!  Please be considerate if participating with a stroller by being aware of other participants and starting in the back of the group so that you will not be in the way of competitive runners.

Do I have to run or can I walk:  We welcome everyone at the Cardinal Strut!  Runners, joggers, walkers, skippers, strutters, sidesteppers, etc! 

T-shirts:  T-shirts are only guaranteed for participants who have registered by February 17.  

Dogs: While we are all DOG owners and DOG lovers we ask that you keep Fido at home on Cardinal Strut day!  We are a family friendly event and thus have lots of children who may not be fans of dogs quite yet!  So..for the comfort and safety of all of our participants please refrain from bringing your dogs.

This event benefits Strut for Kids.

All proceeds from Cardinal Strut benefit Strut for Kids, a non-profit 501c3 which provides assistance funds to children in New Hanover County who are battling cancer.


Refund are not available for this event.
